Children's Guardian Safety Balmoral Water Sport Center 2025/2026
Balmoral Watersports Center takes the welfare and safety of all its junior sailors seriously and supports child participation in our sport.
This document sets out the Center’s child welfare and safety protocols, to ensure a positive, inclusive and safe environment for its junior Sailors.
Upholding this protocol is the responsibility of all Center staff.
Framework:
-
A key component of the framework is the Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy. That policy’s aim is to create a culture and provide strategies that put the interests of children first. The policy may be reviewed HERE
-
All BWSC staff must teach in accordance with the Australia Instructor & Sailing Coaches Code of Behaviour. The code is available here:https://cdn.revolutionise.com.au/site/irycopciflt1lh5m.PDF
-
All Center staff must have a current and validated Working With Children Check. This check must be validated by BWSC and Australia Sailing as part of each staff’ accreditations.
-
Whilst only staff have regular and direct contact with junior sailors, it is understood that as part of BWSC life, there may be times when children are in contact with key senior members or customers of BWSC. To ensure the highest possible standard of child safety, all BWSC staff must hold a valid WWCC.
-
All trained children specific Center’s sessions must be delivered by instructors accredited by Australia Sailing.
-
At Center’s events, where children are in the same environment as adult Center members or customers, they must be met by Center staff and must remain under the supervision of their Center’s instructor or a supervising parent or guardian until completion of the event.
-
All Center staff must have current first aid and CPR certifications and have a first aid kit accessible at training sessions.
-
If an incident or accident affecting the health or welfare of a junior occurs at any Center training sessions, the relevant Center staff must complete and submit an incident or accident report to the Center Manager or director via info@sailingschool.com.au
-
All online activities by the Center and its members involving junior sailors must be conducted in an appropriate manner, ensuring there is no unsolicited contact with children, nor any unsolicited photos or videos.
If a parent or children has any concerns about the welfare of the junior in connection with individual Center staff or elements of the junior programme or wish to lodge a complaint , please refer this to the Center’s Child Safety Representative, Max Gaubert, at info@sailingschool.com.au or by phone on 0431 113 188.
If the matter needs to be raised outside the Center, contact John Douglas (General Manager of NSW Sailing) on 02 9170 6959.
This document must be reviewed as part of the Center’s annual policy review and assessment protocol and may be updated to reflect new laws or requirements of sport governing bodies, that relate to child safety and protection, as these come into effect.
